Filters remove solids from a liquid or separate a mixture. Filtration and separation can be accomplished with filter paper, membranes, screens, magnets, and other filter media, and the filtration process can be pressurized or temperature-controlled. Some filters, such as plate and frame filter presses or horizontal plate filters, are used in batch filtration. Other filters, such as reverse osmosis filtration systems and magnetic separators, are continuous.
